In addition to our beautiful orchids, we also want to have a positive influence on our environment in other ways. Our main goal is to transform to a more sustainable way of growing, without the use of fossil energy.
- Geothermal Energy
To heat our greenhouses, we use geothermal energy, extracting heat from the deep layers of the earth. Deep underground there is warm water in porous sand and rock layers. We extract this sustainable heat, also called geothermal heat, from the hot water in these layers and use it to heat our greenhouses. Currently, about 50% of our used heat comes from a sustainable source.
- Footprint
The main goal is to reduce the amount of CO2 emitted by Opti-flor. We have managed to reduce our natural gas consumption by as much as 60% since 2013, while our business has continued to grow.
- MPS-ECAS
At Opti-flor we work hard every day to become more sustainable. We tackle new opportunities and possibilities to develop and increase the positive impact on our environment. The MPS-ECAS label consists of the following sublabels: MPS-ABC, MPS-GAP,;MPS-Socially Qualified anden MPS-Quality
In addition, Opti-flor is MPS-Productproof certified; a system whereby registration of crop protection within 24 hours and independent sampling can be used to demonstrate that certain active substances have not been used in our Phalaenopsis cultivation.
