Care tips

Good care of your orchid starts with a good location to place your plant. Give your orchid a bright spot, but do not place it in direct sunlight. A good place is a windowsill facing north, on the dining table, coffee table or sideboard. A south-facing windowsill is not a good place. Too much direct sunlight is harmful to the orchid.

It is best to water your orchid once a week. You do this by placing the orchid in a bucket with water and letting it sit for 10 minutes. Then let the orchid drain and place it back in the ceramic pot

Bright spot, but not in direct sunlight

The temperature in the room is between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius.

Avoid dark places

Do not place the orchid in direct sunlight. When the orchid is in direct sunlight, the leaves turn yellow and the flowers droop. However, make sure that the orchid still gets enough light. A place that is too dark is also not good for the orchid.

Good locations for your orchid:

  • In a windowsill facing north, northwest or northeast.
  • On a table a (few) meters away from the window.
  • A place in the middle of the room where daylight shines
  • In a bedroom on a bedside table where daylight shines in
  • In a bathroom with daylight

To water

To water

Remove the orchid from the ceramic pot

Place the orchid in a bowl with a layer of 5 cm water

Let your orchid 'drink' for about ten minutes.

Let your orchid drip and place the plant back in the ceramic pot

The optimal method of watering your Phalaenopsis orchid is to place it in a bowl of water. The orchid then absorbs the water from below. Let the plant quietly absorb the water for about 10 minutes. After this time, remove the orchid from the bowl and let the excess water drain. You can then place the orchid back in its ceramic pot.

Are you unsure if it is time to water your orchid? Then check its roots to be sure. Are the roots grey? Then the plant needs water. Als de wortels mooi groen zijn, heeft de orchidee voldoende water opgenomen.

Water your orchid once every 2 weeks

After a few months the orchid will start to bloom again

On the stem of the orchid you will see several tubercles, also called "eyes". We count these eyes from bottom to top. The eye closest to the leaves is called the first 'eye'. The next eye is the second 'eye'. To prune the orchid correctly, cut just above the second 'eye' (see photo).

After pruning, it is crucial not to spoil your orchid with lots of water and ideal light conditions. Instead, place it in a cooler and slightly darker spot and water it less.

Over time, the orchid produces new branches. This takes some patience.

We recommend watering the orchid every two weeks. Be careful not to water too little, otherwise the plant may dry out and die.
